149920_1593766696140_6512878_nWelcome to my virtual home, Gabitza’s Green Kitchen. I am Gabriela. People call me sometimes Gabitza, so this is the reason my blog is called like that. I cooked all my life for family and friends. I love making food using clean, fresh, organic ingredients.  I also love to experiment with different cuisines and learn about cultures. I was born in Bucharest, Romania during a very difficult time in communism and grew up with little food, cooked from scratch, using local ingredients and canning everything for winter. Now I live in Minnesota, a very, very cold but cool state.  However, because of my strong Romanian roots, I have a tendency to put my Romanian stamp on almost every recipe I make. I speak three languages, Romanian, Spanish and English, but I also speak “Romglish” which is my own combination of Romanian and English. My husband thinks it’s cute and unique especially because I have this little accent too that I cannot get rid of.  I think he is just nice and loves me a lot.

Anyway, few years ago,  I was told by family, friends or coworkers that I should open my own restaurant, food truck or at least have a blog where I could share my recipes, my love for different cultures, my travel experiences. I had a lot to share, so this is how my blog was born.

In 2014, I quit my perfect job that was making me miserable for years and finally decided to start this blog. I also decided to completely change my career or at least try to, so I went back to school and graduated from Horeca School in Bucharest Romania as a Pastry Chef. (Read about this here)

I am the only one doing all the work related to the blog. I wear many hats everyday, which I never thought I will be able to do.  I am the cook and the baker, the writer of the stories, the photographer ( this is really a new skill that I am still in the process of learning), the blog designer and the maintenance person. In few words, this blog is my baby and I am very proud of it, as everything you see here is my personal effort and work of almost 2 years.

I have a lot of passion for my work, I want to learn as much as I can and maybe open my own business one day. There is a lot to do. Exciting times are coming so stay tuned and welcome to my hopefully amazing blog!

Romanian:

Intotdeauna m-am gandit ca timpurile in care am crescut m-au ajutat sa-mi dezvolt creativitatea in bucatarie.
